Culture Night 2020 Information

Culture Night 2020 – Call for Proposals

Culture Night 2020 will be delivered on 18th September 2020 as part of the Culture Night Ireland Festival.
DCSDC would like to commission up to 8 pieces of work to feature in a curated programme on the evening of Friday 18th September 2020. There will be a maximum budget of £300 per project. At this stage we envisage that the content will be captured as a digital pre-record but we will also consider live performance subject to strict adherence to social distancing and best practice H&S guidelines in force at the time.
To facilitate this effectively, DCSDC will coordinate the digital capture of content for the pre-recorded material and provide H&S support for the live performances. The exact nature of this support will be determined by the project proposal and will be agreed with the selected artist. Payment of this award will be subject to Council agreeing upon an acceptable delivery approach with the artist.
Given the limited budget available and the nature of the digital communication channels it is our intention to use this year’s Culture Night as a platform for a broad artistic programme that showcases the best of or City and District. To this end the theme will be ‘Sense of Place‘.
We intend to commission content targeting a main stream audience base which could include • Literature & Poetry Reading • Live Music or dance performances • Podcasts • Film and other genres are considered. All Product must be suitable for family viewing and the content will be hosted on Council’s Arts and Culture website and other related Cultural Night social platforms.
It is envisaged that the pre-recorded content will be a maximum of 10 minutes long. Live performance, if commissioned. will not be subject to the same time restrictions.
Applicants should also note that DCSDC Good Relations Department have another, complementary, grant aid programme open at present. This programme will also consider Good Relations focused projects delivered on Culture Night. Please note, whilst you can apply to both these programmes cannot be used to support the same Culture Night project. So if successful in both applications for the same project you will have to decide which letter of offer to accept. For further information on the Good Relations Programme please contact Good Relations Officer
Arts and Cultural projects will be assessed against the response given for question 2 in the application form. 5 marks will be awarded for ‘Artistic Merit’ and 5 marks for ‘Alignment to the Cultural Night Theme – Sense of Place’.
Pre-recorded content will need to be finalised for the end of August 2020.
Organisations /individual who have already received DCSDC Cultural Grant Aid for 2020/21 (Cultural Organisations Fund, Heritage Animation Fund, Individual Artist & Practitioner Fund, Headline Events Fund or Community Festivals Fund) are not be eligible to apply for this award.
